Being Yourself: The Most Important Thing to Do in a College Interview

Saturday, February 18, 2012

Since you don’t know what actually happens in a college interview, we suggest that the most important thing to do in a college interview is simply to be yourself and be true.
The purpose of a college interview is simply for the college admissions officers to get to know you as their college applicant better. Before they accept you, of course, they need to make sure that you do not have that fake personality that you think will impress them. It’s better to act naturally and honestly in front of them so that your first impression will last.

According to a college admission counselor, she said that “There is no ‘personality type’ or ‘lifestyle’ that is synonymous with a successful interview. Give your interviewer credit for being to discern if you’re being a phony.”
What you need to do is to get comfortable with yourself and be prepared to discuss your interests, talents and experiences to your interviewer. Also, you must think and focus on the interests you think best fit their standards for the courses they offer in their college. Another college counselor also says that those students who understand their wants and the qualities they desire in a college and who can voice out their needs allow for the best interaction during the college interview.
Below are the guiding questions you need to answer for yourself that best describes yourself as a student and as a person. If you think you can answer the questions, then you are now ready to present yourself in the college interview.
Questions:
·         What are your goals?
·         How does this college fit in with your interests and talents?
·         What extracurricular activities are important to you?
·         Why do you want to attend college? Why this college?
·         What academic or intellectual topics interest you?
·         What types of books do you enjoy reading?
·         What majors are you interested in, and why?
·         What are you passionate about?

Thursday, December 29, 2011

In a college interview, knowing what to wear and what questions to answer are equally important also in knowing the proper manners during the college interview. Your behavior, your actions, gestures, and the way you answer the questions are very important aspects when you are having a college interview. You must give good impression to the college admission officer during the entire process so that it won’t be hard on him or her to accept you.

The college interview is not just a simple portion of your college admission requirements because this could help you present yourself to the college admission staff. Through the college interview, you will be able to impress the ones responsible in accepting and rejecting college applicants and be able to make it to the college admissions. So how are you supposed to act during the college interview?

As what I have said, first impressions do count. Thus, you must remember to dress decently and neatly when going to a college interview. Don’t let the way you dress up get in the way of connecting with your interviewer. You really don’t have to get into extreme fashion to get the attention of the interviewer. All you need to wear are decent clothes and remember not to over dress.

Be on the venue on time and greet your interview upon entering the door. Do not be too loud and boisterous when answering questions, modulate your voice and do not appear as if you are too shy to answer. Sit erect and place your hands on your lap. Avoid unnecessary gestures. Lastly, do not forget to send a thank you letter to your interviewer.

How to Dress Up in a College Interview

Sunday, December 18, 2011

The College interview is just one of the needed requirements in a college admission process. If you really don’t have that good grades and if you only had average score in the college admission test, then the college interview is one important factor for you to be accepted in the college or university you wanted to enroll at. It is just simple though. All you need to do is to become prepared for your college interview so that you could easily get into the college of your choice.

One thing that you should prepare before you go to your college interview is to dress properly. You don’t need to buy expensive clothes just to look presentable and professional. All you need to have are some formal clothes inside your closet to help you look more presentable in front of your interviewers. Jeans and shirts are a big No-No! Also, do not wear vulgar clothes like tube, miniskirts, clothes with plunging necklines, spaghetti straps, and halter backs. Do not wear also too fit or too-tight clothes as well as the loose ones. Most importantly, wear the clothes that are appropriate and at the same time, makes you feel comfortable while wearing it. How can you concentrate on your college interview when you are not comfortable with your clothes, right? Lastly, if you are in doubt on what you should wear, just be conservative.
